Discovering Earth while preserving nature

For the past five years, Rasmus Lytchke has journeyed across the world without traditional flights. His choice reflects a strong commitment to climate-conscious tourism, proving that it’s possible to explore the globe without compromising on quality, luxury, or unique adventures. Everything is captured in his inspirational blog, TheTravelBook. Here’s the story.

Rasmus Lytchke and his girlfriend of nine years share a deep passion for traveling, a
cornerstone of their relationship. They dream of one day showing their future children all the incredible places they have visited. However, they are also aware of the environmental impact of frequent travel. An awareness that’s prompted Rasmus to make a drastic decision.

– All my life, I’ve traveled to exotic destinations, leaving a significant climate footprint. Five years ago, I felt it was time to change. I wanted to show that we can enjoy travel without harmful habits, Rasmus explains.

Making every day an adventure

Another great thing about travel is that you don’t always have to go to the ends of the
Earth to have a unique adventure. For instance, Rasmus, his girlfriend and their dog recently took an all-electric trip from Copenhagen to Fur Island in Denmark – widely regarded as one of the country’s most spectacular locations, owing to its unique geological formations, fossil hunting sites, and quiet beaches.

– It’s great that you can take these trips in an electric car, but it does require some planning apart from the driving and recharging. We thought of everything, from the material of the dog containers to staying at a cozy cabin powered by renewable
energy. It’s all about blending comfort with caring for the planet.

The joy of slow living

While keeping their carbon footprint low, the couple started exploring this paradise
for nature lovers, visiting local producers like a dairy farm famous for its artisanal cheeses, an organic vegetable farm, and a local bakery selling traditional Danish pastries and sourdough bread. Before heading back to the cabin, they stopped by a small fish market where local fishermen sold their daily catch.

– Sitting on the porch, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, we enjoyed our meal as the sun dipped below the horizon, our dog resting peacefully beside us. Few places compare to this for pure tranquility, free from the distractions of modern life. It’s a natural beauty we must preserve, each of us playing our part, Rasmus concludes.
